UP Maroons end 17-game losing streak with victory over UE

The University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons secured their first victory in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament by defeating the University of the East Saturday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Steph Bustrillo led the team with 24 points, while Joan Monares and Irah Jaboneta each scored 12 points.

The Maroons won the first two sets but struggled in the third before regaining momentum to secure a decisive victory of 25-17 in the fourth set.

Head coach Oliver Almadro praised his players for their trust in the system and hard work, noting that winning is challenging due to the high level of competition in the UAAP.

With this win, UP ended their 17-game losing streak and improved their league standing to 1-6. The team dedicated their victory to Carmen Ytang, Niña's mother, and UP Sports Psychologist Mona Adviento, who both passed away recently.
