Duterte vetoes unconstitutional items in 2021 budget

President Rodrigo Duterte exercised his veto power over certain parts of the P4.5 trillion 2021 Budget.

The rejected items mainly involve programs that sought to directly appropriate funds generated by government agencies, such as income from Alien Employment Permits and a separate income stream from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).

According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, Duterte’s veto was based on his constitutional mandate to ensure all laws are lawfully enforced.
