UAAP Season 87 opens with Eraserheads headlining

The collegiate sports scene in the Philippines heats up with the start of UAAP Season 87 at Araneta Coliseum on September 7, featuring an extraordinary opening ceremony with a diverse lineup of performers.

Legendary band Eraserheads will headline the event at 11 a.m., marking their tribute to UP after receiving the university's highest honor for cultural contributions.

Before Eraserheads takes the stage, independent musician Johnoy Danao and various musical soloists will perform, setting the tone for an immersive experience.

The UP Symphony Orchestra will join Kontra Gapi in a richly textured performance, followed by a rock unit featuring alumni from different bands and P-Pop group Kaia and UPeepz adding pop elements to the ceremony.

Representatives from each of the seven other UAAP member schools will participate alongside UP students in singing the UAAP Hymn before team introductions and the Oath of Sportsmanship.

The basketball tournament kicks off with a highly-anticipated showdown between Katipunan rivals UP and Ateneo at 6:30 pm, followed by more games on Sunday.
