PHP5B damage, PHP1.21B agri loss from Carina, Habagat

The combined effects of Super Typhoon Carina and southwest monsoon (Habagat) have caused more than PHP5 billion in total damage, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Agricultural losses now amount to PHP1.21 billion across various regions including Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Infrastructure damage has reached PHP4.09 billion in these regions as well.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) reported a production loss of PHP1.21 billion with volume losses amounting to 22,088 metric tons and 43,530 hectares of farmland, impacting rice the most with a value loss of PHP635.17 million.

Approximately 46,625 farmers and fishermen were affected by the damage, with around 73.7% or 31,998 hectares deemed recoverable as DA continues to validate assessments and deploy assistance including rice seeds, corn seeds, fishing gears, SURE Loan Program from ACPC with zero interest loans up to PHP25,000 payable in three years, Quick Response Fund (QRF) for rehabilitation, and indemnification funds from PCIC.

The disaster has affected 1,421,224 families or 5,263,531 persons across the country, with a total of 2,127 damaged houses in 15 regions.
