Typhoon Aghon kills 5, injures 7, displaces thousands

Five people were reported dead and seven others injured as Typhoon Aghon hit various regions in the Philippines on Sunday.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that 19,373 individuals across 81 evacuation centers have been affected by the storm, with 5,343 people displaced.

In Bicol, four injured persons were confirmed to be relatives riding a tricycle when it was hit by an uprooted tree; three of these injuries are from Legazpi, Albay.

The typhoon caused flooding in 13 areas and damaged 22 houses, including four that were completely destroyed. A state of calamity has been declared in Lucena City, Quezon.

Food packs worth P5 million and other food and non-food items totaling over P64 million have been distributed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to assist those affected.
