Tropical Depression Gener forms, raises TCWS No. 1 in Luzon

A low-pressure area inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility developed into a tropical depression named Gener at 5 am on Monday, September 16.

Gener is located 315 kilometers northeast of Casiguran, Aurora, with maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h and gusts up to 55 km/h, moving west-northwest at 10 km/h.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been raised in several areas of Luzon as of Monday morning.

PAGASA forecasts that Gener will make landfall either in Isabela or Aurora province by Tuesday morning, September 17, before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday after intensifying into a tropical storm over the West Philippine Sea.

The enhanced southwest monsoon brought by Gener is expected to affect Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Davao Region with moderate to intense rain, which may cause floods and landslides.
