Tropical depression east of PAR, LPA may become Julian

A tropical depression has developed outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and is located 2,610 kilometers east of Central Luzon as of Thursday evening.

The tropical depression is moving northwest at 10 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h and gusts up to 70 km/h. PAGASA notes that it has a slim chance of entering PAR.

One low pressure area (LPA) inside PAR, located 560 kilometers east of Itbayat, Batanes, now has a high chance of developing into the Philippines' 10th tropical cyclone for 2024 and would be named Julian if it forms. This LPA is already causing scattered rain and thunderstorms in Batanes.

Another LPA outside PAR remains at low risk of becoming a tropical cyclone and may dissipate within days, according to PAGASA.

Residents are advised to stay updated with PAGASA's forecasts due to these weather developments as the entire country except for Batanes is experiencing generally fair weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
