POC chief confident Team Philippines will exceed Tokyo medal count in Paris

Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Abraham Tolentino expressed confidence that Team Philippines will surpass its medal count from the Tokyo Olympics at the upcoming Paris Olympics.

Tolentino emphasized during a Philippine Sportswriters Association forum on Tuesday that Filipino athletes are well-supported and prepared, with increased support from various organizations and sponsors compared to the previous Olympic campaign.

Team Philippines includes top-ranked athletes like pole vaulter EJ Obiena, gymnast Carlos Yulo, silver winners Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam, and bronze medalist Eumir Marcial, among 22 athletes representing the country in Paris starting from July 26 to August 11.

The team has been training intensively in Metz, France, ahead of the games for the first time ever, with high expectations for gold medals.

Tolentino thanked the Philippine Sports Commission and private businesses like Cignal and MVP Sports Foundation for their support, as well as an additional allowance from the Office of the President amounting to €100 per day.
