Sotto cleared to play in FIBA Asia Cup; AJ Edu still doubtful

Seven-foot-three player Kai Sotto has been cleared by Gilas Pilipinas to play in the upcoming FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers games against New Zealand and Hong Kong this week.

Sotto, who was placed on concussion watch after being hit in the head during a Japan B. League game last week, has passed necessary medical protocols and already saw action for the national team in its 96-82 win over PBA squad Meralco on Monday, November 18.

Meanwhile, AJ Edu remains doubtful due to an injury to his right knee suffered recently.

Coach Tim Cone expressed excitement about the prospect of having both Kai Sotto and June Mar Fajardo on the court together, noting their developing chemistry and versatility.

Cone highlighted Sotto's willingness to play as a power forward when needed, allowing Fajardo to remain at center, which provides flexibility in team rotations.

The coach emphasized that this dynamic was missing during Gilas Pilipinas' loss to Brazil in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament semifinals.

With New Zealand bringing in more size than usual, Cone sees Sotto's presence as a significant advantage for the team.
