Filipino textiles highlight SONA, Legarda wears piña

Filipino weaves and textiles were prominently featured on the red carpet of this year's State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City.

Senator Loren Legarda wore a Maria Clara-inspired ensemble designed by Puey Quiñones, featuring a vintage piña fabric from her personal collection, emphasizing Filipino craftsmanship and heritage.

Legarda highlighted that piña was recognized as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO in December 2023, celebrating the artistry of Aklan weavers.

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. will deliver his third SONA at the Batasang Pambansa on Monday, July 22, at 4 p.m., with more than a thousand dignitaries in attendance.

Current issues include rising tensions with China in the West Philippine Sea and ongoing diplomatic efforts to manage disputes between both countries.
