NBI files charges against Shiela Guo and Cassandra Li Ong for fraud, obstruction

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will file criminal charges on Tuesday, August 27 against Shiela Guo, sister of former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo, and Cassandra Li Ong, a POGO representative.

Fingerprint analysis by NBI Director Jaime Santiago confirmed that Shiela Guo is the same person as Zhang Mier, a Chinese citizen who fraudulently acquired a Philippine passport.

Guo underwent inquest proceedings at the NBI headquarters on Friday with government prosecutors present, while Ong remains under custody awaiting her own inquest proceedings.

Both Guo and Ong face charges related to obstruction of justice, harboring a fugitive, violation of the Philippine Passport Act, and misrepresenting herself as a Filipino citizen.

The Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights is prepared to receive Guo and Ong for hearings related to a privilege speech urging the DFA to cancel Alice Guo's passport.
