Sheila Guo, Katherine Ong arrested for immigration violations on return from Indonesia

Sheila Leal Guo, the sister of dismissed Bamban Mayor Alice L. Guo, was arrested alongside Katherine Cassandra Lee Ong in Indonesia for being illegal aliens and were deported back to the Philippines on Thursday.

Upon their return at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 around 5 p.m., they were escorted by Bureau of Immigration operatives and are now under custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Quezon City following their arrest and deportation from Indonesia. Alice L. Guo remains reported to be in Indonesia.

Department of Justice Undersecretary Nicholas Ty stated that Sheila Guo was arrested for immigration violations including suspicion about her nationality and illegal exit from the Philippines, while Ong was arrested without a warrant by the NBI on charges of obstruction of justice, violation of passport act, and criminal provisions of the Immigration Act. Alice L. Guo's sister has a Chinese passport which she represented as Filipino.

Ong’s lawyer Ferdinand Topacio questioned the basis of her arrest, stating that unless there is a court case filed and warrant issued, NBI and PNP cannot detain individuals. He also noted that Ong will be charged but only a House detention warrant exists.

Shiela Guo is now in better condition under legal counsel's care since her arrival back in the Philippines. Meanwhile, investigation into Alice L. Guo’s alleged illegal exit from the country continues.
