Senators criticize China over West Philippine Sea statement

Two opposition senators criticized China's recent statement regarding maritime exercises in the West Philippine Sea.

Senator Francis Pangilinan emphasized that the Philippines will continue its activities in its sovereign waters, asserting that foreign nations have no authority to dictate actions within these areas.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III and Senator Risa Hontiveros urged China to withdraw its navy and maritime vessels from the region to prevent further escalation of disputes.

Hontiveros argued that China's claim over the Spratly Islands is unfounded, questioning Beijing’s sincerity in avoiding conflict.
