Senate verifies 215 wet signatures for Duterte impeachment complaint

Senate President Francis Escudero confirmed on Monday, February 10, that all 215 signatures on the verified impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte submitted by the House are wet signatures.

Escudero stated during a press conference that at least four people visually checked each signature twice to ensure legitimacy and an AI app was used for further verification.

The Senate Secretariat is responsible for verifying that the impeachment complaint meets the constitutional requirement of at least one-third of House members signing with wet signatures, noting that electronic signatures are not allowed in impeachment complaints.

Each senator has received a copy of the impeachment complaint, which is also available on the Senate's official website for public access.

Escudero emphasized that verifying the authenticity of the signatures is crucial before proceeding with the impeachment process and assured that the Senate would handle the case without special treatment.
