SC conducts raffle for Duterte-ICC petition

The Supreme Court conducted a special raffle to determine which justice will handle a petition filed by former President Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Ronald 'Bato' Dela Rosa seeking his release following his arrest on Tuesday.

Duterte and Dela Rosa submitted the petition, requesting a temporary restraining order to prevent the government from cooperating with the International Criminal Court (ICC) in its investigation of the drug war under the Duterte administration.

The petition also asks for a TRO to stop the government from assisting Interpol or any foreign law agency in executing arrest warrants related to the ICC case.

Lawyer Israelito Torreon filed an additional petition for certiorari with a request for temporary restraining order against the government, seeking the immediate release of Duterte on the grounds that his detention is illegal and unconstitutional.

The Supreme Court confirmed that this special raffle was conducted according to Rule 7, Section 7 of the Internal Rules of the SC, acknowledging the significance of the case.
