Sara Duterte clarifies Australian trip not related to father's interim release

Vice President Sara Duterte clarified during a media interview in Melbourne that her trip to Australia includes discussions about her father's case before the International Criminal Court (ICC) but is not related to former president Rodrigo Duterte's interim release.

Sara emphasized that she attempted to meet with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, who declined due to short notice, but this rejection would not affect Philippine-Australia relations.

On June 12, Duterte's defense team filed a request seeking his temporary release to an undisclosed country citing his advanced age and low risk of flight.

The vice president confirmed that Australia is one of the countries being considered for Rodrigo Duterte's interim release by his legal team but stressed her current visit was unrelated to this matter.

Sara stated her intention to discuss the administration's performance during future visits to Australia, highlighting her commitment to engaging with Filipino communities abroad.
