Sanchez, Hatch set for Philippines at Paris Olympics

Filipino swimmers Kayla Sanchez and Jarod Hatch are set to compete for the Philippines at the 2024 Paris Olympics with a chance to win the country's first medal since Teofilo Yldefonso in 1932.

Sanchez, who previously represented Canada and boasts multiple medals including silver and bronze from the 2021 Tokyo Olympics before switching nationalities, is now aiming to honor her Filipino heritage.

Since deciding to represent the Philippines, Sanchez has competed in various international events, winning several medals, most recently during the 19th Asian Games in China where she finished fifth in the women's 100m freestyle and sixth in the women's 50m backstroke.

Hatch, who has been representing the Philippines since 2018 and won a silver medal at the 2019 Asian Games, made a comeback after an early retirement in 2021 to win another silver at the 2023 SEA Games.

Sanchez will compete in the women's 100m freestyle starting July 31, while Hatch will participate in the men's 100m butterfly event beginning August 2.
