Manila enforces hard lockdown in Sampaloc

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno imposed a 48-hour 'hard lockdown' in Sampaloc District starting Thursday night due to high COVID-19 cases.

During the first few hours, about 20 individuals were apprehended and brought to covered courts for the night.

Stores and stalls at Trabajo Market closed early Friday morning as residents stocked up on supplies before the lockdown.

Police and military personnel were deployed to enforce the hard lockdown, with orders to use force if necessary against unruly residents.

The hard lockdown will last until Saturday evening, affecting over 300,000 residents from 192 barangays.
