DSWD closes centers; residents return after Bulusan eruptions

Residents displaced by recent eruptions of Mt. Bulusan have returned home, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Saturday.

The DSWD announced that all five evacuation centers established for displaced families have officially closed.

Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao of the DSWD's Disaster Response Management Group emphasized ongoing monitoring as Mt. Bulusan remains at Alert Level 1, ensuring evacuees can resume normal lives.

Since April 28, the DSWD has provided PHP22 million in humanitarian aid, including food packs and non-food essentials to affected families in Sorsogon province.

The DSWD maintains over P3 million in standby funds and stockpiles of family food packs and non-food items worth more than P205 million for potential future needs.

Bulusan Volcano experienced phreatic eruptions on April 28 and April 30, causing ashfall in nearby towns.
