Marcos orders DSWD to assess Bulusan volcano impact, preps 180K food packs

On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ordered DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian to assess the needs of communities affected by Mount Bulusan's restiveness.

Gatchalian arrived in Sorsogon early Tuesday morning and assured that over 180,000 family food packs are prepositioned in warehouses across Bicol for immediate distribution if needed.

The DSWD has already delivered an initial 20,000 boxes of FFPs to the provincial government of Sorsogon on Monday, with a Mobile Kitchen stationed at Juban Municipal evacuation center serving hot meals to over 70 families.

Gatchalian emphasized that in case of prolonged volcanic activity or worsening conditions, financial assistance will be provided as directed by President Marcos to meet additional needs beyond food packs.

The DSWD is closely coordinating with local government units and other stakeholders for the systematic delivery of aid, ensuring displaced families are safe and receiving adequate provisions including psychosocial support.
