Mount Bulusan eruptions displace 14K families

Clearing operations continue in Sorsogon following the second consecutive day of eruptions from Mount Bulusan on Tuesday night, April 29.

At least 14,830 families or 74,209 individuals from six municipalities were impacted by ashfall, with Juban and Irosin being the most affected areas.

The Sorsogon Police Provincial Office has advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel due to road closures caused by ash accumulation on major routes.

Department of Social Welfare and Development personnel are providing relief assistance to affected families, with more than P220 million in aid on standby.

A total of 118 individuals or 33 families from Barangay Cogon in Irosin and Barangay Puting Sapa in Juban were evacuated following the ash fall, according to Philippine National Police Region 5 Director Andre Dizon.

Police reminded residents to wear masks, keep windows and doors closed, and stay updated with official announcements from local authorities for their safety.

Evacuees have been brought to evacuation centers as thick ash fell in several barangays.
