Rep. Paolo Duterte faces criminal charges for alleged physical assault and threats

Rep. Paolo Duterte is facing criminal charges for alleged physical injuries and grave threats following an incident at Hearsay Gastropub Bar in Davao City on February 23.

Businessman Kristone Moreno filed the complaint, accusing Duterte of inflicting physical injuries and issuing grave threats during their encounter around 3 am.

In a sworn statement executed before the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group dated April 26, Moreno alleged that a drunk Duterte threatened him with a knife and repeatedly headbutted him at the bar.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has confirmed receiving the complaint on Friday, May 2, and Rep. Duterte is awaiting authentication of an online video before commenting further.

Vice President Sara Duterte believes the complaint against her brother is politically motivated to cover up the administration's failure to provide rice at P20 per kilo as promised.

Moreno claims he fears for his life, prompting him to file the complaint.

Additionally, Duterte faces complaints related to drug smuggling involving a P6.4 billion crystal meth shipment in Valenzuela City in 2017.
