Rep Libanan named lead prosecutor in VP Sara's impeachment trial

The House prosecution team has named 4Ps Party-list Representative Marcelino 'Nonoy' Libanan as the lead prosecutor for Vice President Sara Duterte's upcoming impeachment trial.

During a press conference at the House of Representatives on Tuesday, March 25, Rep. Rodge Gutierrez announced that Libanan will serve in this capacity pending formal confirmation and detailed the tasks given to him, including executing verification related to petitions and motions, signing pleadings on behalf of the prosecution, and performing other necessary acts.

Libanan, a former chairman of the House Committee on Justice who has already filed the prosecution panel's first pleading before the Senate, expressed confidence that the Senate will eventually heed the House's call to start trial as stated in the 1987 Constitution.

Senate President Francis 'Chiz' Escudero has set the impeachment trial for July, but Libanan and Gutierrez argue that convening the Senate impeachment court outside of Congressional session is aboveboard according to the Constitution.
