4Ps Rep Libanan clarifies impeachment motion not pressuring Senate

4Ps Party-list Rep. Marcelino Libanan, the lead prosecutor in Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment trial, clarified on Tuesday, March 25, that the House impeachment prosecution panel did not intend to pressure the Senate when it filed a motion involving action on impeached Vice President Sara Duterte.

Libanan emphasized during a press conference that their filings are consistent with Senate procedures and that they will await a formal written communication from Senate President Francis 'Chiz' Escudero regarding their Motion for Writ of Summons, in line with the interest of transparency and due process.

The veteran congressman noted that despite the ongoing campaign period for the May 12 mid-term elections, the Senate has continued to conduct business, as evidenced by recent committee hearings.

Libanan explained that their filings are consistent with Senate procedures, giving Vice President Duterte a 0-day window to respond to the articles of impeachment filed against her on February 5.

Vice President Duterte is currently in the Netherlands while her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, faces trial at the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity.
