Rep Jil Bongalon cites survey backing for VP Sara Duterte's impeachment

Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Jil Bongalon views recent Tangere survey results as validation of the need to proceed with Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment trial.

The survey, conducted from February 10 to 12, 2025, shows that 73 percent of Filipinos believe Duterte should face a Senate impeachment trial over alleged assassination plots against government officials.

Bongalon emphasized that the public demands accountability for anyone violating the law, regardless of their position and called on senators to respect public opinion and fulfill their constitutional duty by convening as an impeachment court promptly.

The House of Representatives has already transmitted the impeachment documents to the Senate, with 215 lawmakers endorsing the complaint.

Survey results also indicate that 51 percent support the impeachment complaint and 53 percent agree that Duterte should be tried for alleged misuse of public funds.

With 'overwhelming support' from both the public and the House of Representatives, Bongalon said it is imperative that the Senate constitutes itself as an impeachment court to address these serious allegations.

Senate President Francis Escudero has ruled out any proceedings during Congress' adjournment due to legal and procedural constraints.
