Bans climbing andas for Black Nazarene, DPWH fixes roads, PCG K9s deployed

Rev. Fr. Jesus Madrid Jr., parochial vicar of Quiapo Church, has warned devotees that climbing the andas during the Traslacion procession for the Black Nazarene feast on January 9 will be strictly prohibited.

Devotees are advised to throw towels or cloths to members of the Hijos del Nazareno who will wipe them for safety reasons; they can also pull on the ropes but must remain calm and refrain from pushing others.

The Department of Public Works and Highways is conducting road maintenance along the procession route, including fixing potholes and clearing obstructions.

The Philippine Coast Guard has initiated security preparations, deploying K9 units for crowd control at key locations and providing medical assistance during the event.

PCG will also secure waters near Quirino Grandstand through coastal patrols to ensure safety during the religious celebration.
