Black Nazarene Traslacion concludes with record crowd, new glass case

The 2024 Traslacion of the Black Nazarene in Manila concluded after a 15-hour procession on Tuesday, January 9, drawing a total of 6,113,598 Catholic devotees who turned the streets into a sea of maroon and yellow.

This year's event saw the inclusion of a new protective glass case for the centuries-old image, which improved safety but also caused initial shock among long-time devotees accustomed to touching it.

Despite minor incidents such as ropes snapping and some medical emergencies, organizers noted smoother movement through crowds thanks to enhanced security measures and improvements in the carriage design.

Devotees like Ariel Quijano flew from Davao City to Manila to participate in the procession, praying for miraculous healing and safety for their loved ones.

Medical volunteers responded quickly to several emergency cases during the event, including incidents where attendees fell from platforms while attempting to climb the andas of the image.
