QC cracks down on drinking sessions, social gatherings

Quezon City raised an alarm over drinking sessions and social gatherings causing a surge in COVID-19 cases, leading to granular lockdowns in certain areas.

Mayor Joy Belmonte noted that more than a year into the pandemic, eight out of 27 areas under special concern have seen rising cases due to these events.

For example, 69 confirmed cases were recorded after a drinking session and wedding event in Barangay Matandang Balara.

Belmonte ordered local law enforcers to patrol alleys and monitor gatherings, warning that violators will face legal sanctions.
