PSA has leads on CBMS cyberattack culprits

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has leads on the culprits behind the recent cyberattack on its community-based monitoring system (CBMS), but declined to provide specific details as investigations are ongoing.

Data protection officer Eliezer Ambatali stated that the hackers likely acted to boast about their abilities rather than for financial gain, unlike the Medusa ransomware gang which demanded $300,000 from PhilHealth.

PSA has not received any ransom demands and initial assessments indicate different malware was used in both attacks on PSA and PhilHealth.
