Duterte orders class suspension, asks cops to ensure kids stay home

President Duterte ordered a suspension of classes from Tuesday to Saturday amid the COVID-19 threat.

Despite this order, some children were seen playing outside and not adhering to stay-at-home guidelines.

Duterte asked barangay chairmen and police officers to ensure that kids stayed home during the class suspension.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra stated there is nothing wrong with police acting as truancy officers to keep students away from crowded places.

The Philippine National Police clarified they will not arrest students but instead encourage them to stay home for their health and welfare.
