PNP reports 74 validated election-related incidents since January

As of Friday, May 16, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported a total of 74 validated election-related incidents since January 12 for the May 2025 midterm elections.

The majority of these cases were recorded in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), with 23 incidents, followed by the Cordillera Administrative Region with 17 cases.

Other regions reporting incidents include Calabarzon, Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, Central Luzon, and several others with fewer reports each.

Out of these incidents, 55 are still under investigation, nine have complaints filed, one is considered solved, six have cases already in court, two were dismissed, and one was amicably settled.

The PNP confirmed there are now 20 validated election-related killings but has yet to provide updates on the number of injured persons.

Despite some reports of violence and voting delays, the overall conduct of the May 2025 midterm elections has been described as generally peaceful by authorities, with regional police offices in Bangsamoro and Cordillera reporting successful responses to incidents.

The PNP plans to review security strategies from this election period in preparation for future polls, including parliamentary elections in BARMM in October and Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in December.
