PNP declares full alert for midterm elections, deploys 160K officers

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has declared full alert status two days before the 2025 midterm elections, deploying over 160,000 officers nationwide to ensure a peaceful and orderly election process.

As of May 8, around 370 areas have been identified as concerns, with some 2,863 gun ban violators apprehended, including 195 at checkpoints.

The PNP's heightened security measures aim to secure peace and order in polling areas while the Philippine Army stands ready to augment forces on the ground if necessary.

In addition, the PNP reported that at least 18 people are facing charges in five regions for alleged vote buying/selling, with most cases involving handing out groceries or aid 10 days before the elections.

The PNP and the Philippine Army remain committed to delivering secure, accurate, free, and fair elections while continuing their operations against threat groups.
