PNP appeals for protective gear at COVID-19 checkpoints

The Philippine National Police appealed for face masks, gloves, and thermal scanners for police officers manning control points in Metro Manila following the implementation of a community quarantine.

PNP Chief Archie Gamboa said protective gear is essential as police are mandated to enforce the quarantine despite risks.

Deputy Chief Guillermo Eleazar admitted that policemen still need thermal scanners and promised that local government units have committed to providing these devices.

The PNP acting spokesperson, Police Major General Benigno Durana Jr., directed unit commanders to provide necessary safety equipment like face masks and thermal scanners.

Durana urged unit commanders to coordinate with the Department of Health and local governments to procure the needed gear.
