Gov't aids families affected by Mt. Kanlaon eruption

Malacañang announced on Tuesday that assistance would be provided to those affected by the latest eruption of Mt. Kanlaon Volcano.

Palace Press Officer and Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro stated that the Department of Social Welfare and Development is coordinating with local government units to provide necessary resources upon President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive.

The Office of Civil Defense Region 6 reported ashfall in areas like Barangay Sag-Ang in La Castellana, Barangays Yubo and Ara-al in La Carlota, and Bago City following Tuesday morning's eruption.

Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rex Gatchalian emphasized that over 250,000 boxes of family food packs are prepositioned in warehouses across Western and Central Visayas to assist affected families, with more than 2.5 million boxes nationwide available for immediate relief response.

The government is actively assessing the situation and will provide additional aid as needed, including resources to hundreds of families staying in evacuation centers since the Dec. 9, 2024 eruption.

Phivolcs reported that Mt. Kanlaon's latest explosive eruption occurred at 5:51 a.m., and Alert Level 3 remains in effect over the volcano.
