Phivolcs lowers Taal Volcano alert level to 2

Phivolcs lowered Taal Volcano's alert level to Alert Level 2 on February 14.

The downgrade was due to fewer volcanic earthquakes and weak steam or gas emissions over the past three weeks.

Since January 26, an average of 141 volcanic earthquakes per day were recorded, with sulfur dioxide emission at 53 tonnes per day.

Phivolcs maintained that sudden steam-driven explosions could still occur and advised against entry into Taal Volcano Island and along its coast.

Local government units were instructed to assess previously evacuated areas within the seven-kilometer radius for damages and road accessibilities.
