Gilas Pilipinas Women lose 87-62 to Senegal in World Cup qualifier

Gilas Pilipinas Women concluded their campaign in the FIBA World Cup Pre-Qualifying tournament without a win, losing 87-62 against Senegal on Thursday (Philippine time).

Despite starting strong and trailing by only two points after the first quarter, Gilas could not keep pace with Senegal's dominant second-quarter performance, falling behind 45-32 at halftime.

Jack Animam led the team with 15 points while Naomi Panganiban added 14 points in a valiant effort to close out the tournament.

Despite the loss, national coach Pat Aquino emphasized that this experience provided invaluable learning opportunities for the squad and highlighted the honor of representing their part of the world against teams from South America, Africa, and Europe.

The team's performance also included a competitive 74-77 loss to Brazil, showcasing resilience and determination throughout the tournament.
