Gilas Pilipinas Women narrowly lost to Brazil in their opening match of the FIBA Women's World Cup 2026 Pre-Qualifiers Group Stage on Monday evening.

Jack Animam led with a double-double performance of 18 points and 21 rebounds, along with four blocks and one steal, despite playing with four fouls for over 31 minutes.

Khate Castillo missed two crucial three-point attempts in the final moments as Brazil maintained their lead to secure a 77-74 victory.

Afril Bernardino contributed 14 points, seven rebounds, and two steals, while Naomi Panganiban added 13 points and five rebounds.

The Philippines will face Hungary on Tuesday at 11 p.m., with only the top-two teams advancing to the semifinals.
