Philippines eyes October for COVID-19 vaccine trials

The Philippines is planning to participate in Phase 3 clinical trials for coronavirus vaccines by October this year.

Department of Science and Technology, along with a panel of experts, has been crafting a strategy to join international clinical trials for advanced vaccine candidates.

Philippine Council for Health Research and Development Executive Director Jaime Montoya said joining these trials is the country's best short-term strategy.

The Philippines will also participate in solidarity trials led by the World Health Organization (WHO) to ensure prioritization of supplies once a vaccine is found.

Participating in these trials would speed up drug registration with the local Food and Drug Administration.
