Philippines' new COVID-19 infections drop to 6,835

The number of new coronavirus cases in the Philippines has continued to decline, with 6,835 new infections reported on Monday, down from Sunday's 8,361.

Active cases dropped to 116,720 on Monday, and recoveries increased by another 16,330 on Monday, bringing the total recovery count to 3,445,129 or 95.3% of confirmed infections since the start of the pandemic.

The Department of Health (DOH) reported 12 new deaths on Monday, raising the country's death toll to 54,538.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario S. Vergeire noted that cases are continuing to drop but emphasized the need for continued vigilance as the national average daily cases this week is 45% lower than the previous week’s figures.
