Philippines logs 171 new Delta, Omicron subvariant cases

The Philippines recorded 171 new Delta variant and Omicron subvariant cases as of September 13.

Of these, 163 were BA.5 Omicron subvariants with 151 cases in the Davao Region, six in Soccsksargen, two in Caraga, one each in Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, and National Capital Region.

Four Delta variant cases were detected in the Davao Region along with two BA.4 cases.

The DOH also reported two cases of 'other sublineages' of Omicron and 45 cases of 'no assigned lineage'.

Between July 30 and August 30, samples were collected for sequencing; BA.4 and BA.5 were designated as variants of concern by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control in March.

On Thursday, the Philippines logged 2,141 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total to 3,913,536 with recoveries at 3,826,246 and deaths at 62,447.
