Philippines welcomes Tokyo Olympics delay

The Philippines welcomes the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics to sometime in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William Ramirez stated that funding for Olympic hopefuls will resume once a new schedule is announced and depending on the global situation.

Ramirez emphasized the safety and health of athletes as top priority, while POC president Bambol Tolentino noted that postponement gives more Filipinos chances to qualify and prepare for future competitions.
