Sulu closes borders to travelers from Sabah

Sulu province has closed its borders to travelers from Sabah, Malaysia due to the detection of a new coronavirus variant in Sabah.

Governor Abdusakur M. Tan announced that no one can travel to or enter Sulu from Sabah, and expressed concern over potential rice shortages as Sulu relies on Sabah for this staple food.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana stated the government plans to block visitors from Sabah entering Sulu after a suspected case of a new coronavirus variant was reported in Sabah.

Health experts clarified that the mutation found in Sabah is different from the UK strain and more similar to variants discovered in South Africa, Australia, and the Netherlands.
