Philippines Reports Over 300K COVID-19 Cases; Health Workers' Infections Near 10K

The Department of Health (DOH) reported on Sunday that 305 more health workers contracted COVID-19 over the past week, increasing the total to 9,347.

Recoveries among health workers rose to 8,597 after 417 additional recoveries were recorded, while three new fatalities pushed the death toll to 59.

There are currently 690 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine.

Nurses account for the highest number of infections with 3,263 cases, followed by doctors (1,719), nursing assistants (720), medical technologists (436), and midwives (227).

Over 500 non-medical personnel such as utility workers, security guards, and janitors have also been infected.

Additionally, the DOH reported on Friday that there were 2,630 new COVID-19 cases nationwide, bringing the total to nearly 300K with 299,361 confirmed cases.

Total recoveries increased to 232,399 after 494 more patients recovered from the illness, while 69 new fatalities raised the death toll to 5,196.
