Philippines, China agree to resume oil, gas talks at early date

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed during their bilateral summit on January 4 to resume talks on oil and gas exploration in the South China Sea at an early date.

Marcos expressed hope that negotiations would bear fruit, noting the pressure on both countries and the rest of the world to move away from traditional power fronts.

Talks were previously terminated due to territorial disputes but have now been revived following Marcos's state visit to Beijing.
