PGH: Convalescent plasma transfusion experimental but shows promise

Philippine General Hospital (PGH) spokesperson Jonas Del Rosario said on Friday that convalescent plasma transfusion, a procedure where blood from COVID-19 survivors is used to treat critically ill patients, is still in the experimental stage but shows promise.

Del Rosario explained that this method involves transferring antibodies from recovered patients' blood to those who are sick, which can help either slow down the disease's progression or strengthen the patient to recover.

PGH has called for blood donations from COVID-19 survivors and will be the first hospital in the country to attempt convalescent plasma transfusion, a method reportedly used in Wuhan City, China.
