PDEA destroys PHP5.3B worth of illegal drugs

On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, PDEA destroyed over PHP5.32 billion worth of dangerous drugs and controlled precursors and essential chemicals at a waste management facility in Trece Martires City, Cavite.

The destruction included 2,227.7584 kg of solid illegal drugs and 3,447.0920 ml of liquid narcotics through thermal decomposition.

Among the destroyed items were 738.2005 kg of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu), 1,478.4915 kg of marijuana, and other substances like MDMA, cocaine, toluene, ketamine, phenacetin, LSD, and liquid drugs.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from various law enforcement agencies, departments, NGOs, and media outlets.

PDEA Director General Undersecretary Isagani Nerez emphasized that the destruction aims to eliminate any speculation about the reuse or resale of seized drugs and promotes transparency under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s 'Bagong Pilipinas' program.

Among the destroyed items were 404.9515 kg of shabu seized in an interdiction operation at the Port of Manila on January 23, 2025.
