PCG rescues over 5,000 from floods in Metro Manila and Luzon
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has rescued and evacuated 5,076 individuals from flooding caused by tropical cyclones and the southwest monsoon across Metro Manila and parts of Luzon as of Thursday.
Rescue operations are concentrated in areas submerged in chest-deep floodwaters, including Valenzuela City, Cavite, Laguna, Bulacan, Bataan, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, and Calasiao.
PCG spokesperson Capt. Noemie Cayabyab informed ABS-CBN News that the PCG has deployed enough rubber boats and floating assets to aid local government units and affected barangays.
All 16 Coast Guard districts, comprising 6,700 personnel, are on full alert with deployable response groups ready for immediate rescue operations equipped with air assets and radio communications equipment.
In addition to flood response, the PCG has assisted in preemptive evacuation efforts in vulnerable areas and is coordinating with coastal communities to warn fishermen against sailing in rough seas.
The total number of rescued individuals includes those from Barangays Gutad and Buhuan in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro; Sablayan and Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro; and the cities of Malabon, Valenzuela.
