Marcos Jr. rejects VP Duterte’s impeachment, cites national interest

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reiterated his stance that Vice President Sara Duterte should not face impeachment despite the National Rally for Peace by Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) on Monday.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin stated Thursday that the president's position remains unchanged, emphasizing that ousting Duterte would be unproductive and detrimental to addressing other pressing national issues.

Former Senator Juan Ponce Enrile questioned whether the INC could override constitutional processes in a Facebook post, warning of a 'very detrimental precedent' if their logic is followed.

Bersamin responded by affirming Marcos' commitment to open discussion within his administration, noting that diverse views enrich policymaking despite differing perspectives from key officials like Enrile.

The INC peace rally, attended by over 1.5 million individuals according to police estimates, was not a political activity but rather a moral one meant to support Marcos’s stance against impeaching Duterte.

Duterte is currently facing three impeachment complaints linked to her alleged misuse of public funds, but she thanked the INC for their support during the nationwide rally.
