DOH, Palace stress 99% protection from masks, shields, distancing

The Department of Health (DOH) and Malacañang have emphasized that proper use of face masks, face shields, and physical distancing provide up to 99% protection against COVID-19.

DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire cited scientific studies indicating that wearing a mask alone offers 85% protection, while adding physical distancing and face shields increases this significantly.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque dismissed lawyer Larry Gadon's opinion that face masks are ineffective, noting that Gadon is not a medical expert and appealed to the public to continue adhering to health protocols.
