Palace assures funding for rebuilding Odette-hit classrooms

Malacañang assured on Tuesday that P3.37 billion needed for rebuilding classrooms damaged by Typhoon Odette would be available.

The funding is part of the post-disaster needs assessment being done by the Office of Civil Defense with NEDA's help, and will come from the regular 2022 budget or the National Disaster Risk Reduction Fund if necessary.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones said that as of December 27, Odette totally damaged 1,068 classrooms and partially damaged another 1,316.

Briones noted that DepEd has around P230 million Quick Response Fund left which can be used to aid affected regions.
